About the event

Join us in celebrating a major milestone as Salena Burke completes her doctoral journey at the Illinois Institute of Technology. This special occasion includes three important academic events that mark the culmination of years of research, dedication, and scholarly achievement.

Oral Defense

The Oral Defense is the final step in the doctoral process. During this event, Salena will present her dissertation research to a committee of faculty members and academic peers. She will explain her research contributions, respond to questions, and demonstrate the significance of her work. Successfully defending the dissertation signifies that the research meets the standards required for the doctoral degree.

Hooding Ceremony

The Hooding Ceremony is a traditional academic celebration that recognizes the achievement of earning a doctoral degree. During the ceremony, faculty advisors place a doctoral hood over the graduate’s shoulders. The hood represents scholarly accomplishment and entry into the community of scholars.
